What is CSR?
Corporate Social Responsibility as a business strategy has acquired a new level of importance in today’s world. Businesses, governments, NGOs and the diverse actors which conform society, have confirmed the benefits attained by changing business practices, behaviors, and notions, which in their current form, have damaged the quality of life of the present generation, and threatened that of generations to come.
Various definitions of CSR exist. There is no consensus on a single definition, but most recognize the responsibility of business to contribute to community development and society in general. Many definitions are linked to sustainable development and the promotion of human rights. It could be said that for the sake of guaranteeing the sustainability of development, competitiveness in the marketplace, and access to a dignified quality of life for every citizen, businesses should assume the responsibility to work together with its employees, their families, the community, and civil society in a framework of continual improvement. The implementation of CSR has begun to have positive results for different stakeholders, and for countries in general. This, in turn, has motivated the realization of its potential to affect development.
